Stress is the body’s response to demand or change. It usually affects you mentally, physically, and emotionally. You get tensed up and feel frustrated when you are stressed.
Actually, stress is a part of our daily lives. Almost everyone feels stressed one way or the other. We get stressed from work, school, home, and many other places or settings
Stress needs to be managed because it can cause harm to our health when unmanaged. According to research, it has led to some conditions like high blood pressure, heart diseases, and others.
I’ve read a lot of articles and books about how to deal with stress over the course of time and I’ve come up with these few tips that’ll help you deal with stress.
TIP 1: LISTEN TO MUSIC
Like I said before, stress makes you feel tensed and frustrated. Anytime you feel like this, stop whatever you’re doing and take a break. Plug-in your earpiece and listen to some soothing music. Slow and calming music usually has a good effect on your brain and body. It helps you to relax and decreases your cortisol hormones.
TIP 2: BREATH
Breath, people, breath. Anytime you feel stressed, relax. Breath in and out. Clear your mind and concentrate on your breathing. Focus your attention on a reassuring phrase such as “I’m calm, I’m happy”. At a point, you’ll realize that your attention is drifting to other thoughts. Push those thoughts out of your mind and focus on your chosen phrase.
TIP 3: TALK TO A FRIEND
Friends are an important part of our lives. Whenever you feel stressed, call a friend. Talk to someone who listens to you and cares about the way you feel. Sometimes, a reassuring voice is all you need to feel better.
You can also talk to members of your family or your therapist.
TIP 4: GET MORE SLEEP
Long and good sleep helps you to stay relaxed throughout the day. Take a warm bath before going to bed. Try reading a book or listening to a podcast in the evening. It helps you fall asleep faster. Avoid taking caffeine and nicotine in the evening as well. Turn off your lights, T.V, and other devices. This helps you to relax for sometime before finally falling asleep.
TIP 5: TALK YOURSELF THROUGH
This might sound crazy I know. Doing this actually looks crazy as well but this is very helpful. This is my go-to remedy for dealing with stress. Sometimes there are no friends to talk to. Try this. Have a conversation with yourself and reassure yourself. Ask yourself why you are stressed and tell yourself you can do it and that you’ll be fine.
TIP 6: SAY NO SOMETIMES
Sometimes you get stressed because you have a lot of work to do but you don’t have enough time to finish them. Learn to say no when you feel you can not accomplish an unimportant task. We usually say yes most of the time because we don’t want to sound rude or we always want to be nice and helpful.
TIP 7: TAKE TIME OFF
Take a break. Take some time and plan a vacation or even staycation for yourself. During this time, relax and take care of yourself. Have warm baths, listen to music, take yourself out, and eat right. Have all the fun in the world and make yourself happy.
